About the Religious Institute:
The Religious Institute is a national, multifaith organization dedicated to educating and advocating for sexual, gender, and reproductive justice in faith communities and society.
The summer intern will help update and support existing Religious Institute programs, materials, and resources. The intern will learn about progressive religious advocacy for sexual, gender, and reproductive justice, will gain experience in working in a faith-rooted social justice non-profit organization, and will contribute to a collaborative and creative office environment.
Some projects with which the intern may be involved include (a) conducting research to update the Religious Institute’s online resource on denominational positions on sexuality issues, (b) offering clerical support for the Religious Institute’s June fundraising campaign, (c) improving the Religious Institute’s internal databases, and (d) updating the Religious Institute’s website. The intern will offer programmatic support in the areas of LGBTQ justice, reproductive justice, and sexuality education. Responsibilities also will include social media, clerical assistance, and other projects as assigned.
Start and end dates are flexible, with a preference for the intern to begin by mid-June 2017 and to work 10-12 weeks. The intern is expected to work 25 hours a week.
This position is located at the Religious Institute’s offices in Bridgeport, CT, accessible from the Metro-North train station.
A $2000 stipend is available.
Currently enrolled M.Div., MAR, and STM students are welcome to apply. Students with interest in religion, sexuality, or public health programs are preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to take initiative, work independently on multiple projects, and meet project deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff.
- Excellent oral communication, editing, and research skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and technological skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, DropBox, and WordPress.
- Ability to manage social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter).
