Religious Institute at Creating Change: National Conference on LGBT Equality

The Religious Institute’s Deputy Director, Marie Alford-Harkey, will moderate the session, “Bisexually Healthy Faith Communities,” at the 27th National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change, organized by the National LGBTQ Task Force. The conference will be held at the Sheraton Denver Downtown, February 4–8, 2015. Plenary sessions will be livestreamed.

“Bisexually Healthy Faith Communities” is scheduled for Friday, February 6, 4:45-6:15pm, during Workshop Session 4. This session will explore how understanding and embracing those who identify as bisexual help us get in touch with the nature of the divine. Participants will assess their faith community’s bisexual health, consider current research about bisexuality, practice strategies for making faith communities more welcoming to bisexuals, challenge binary thinking by engaging in theological reflection, and develop an action plan to make their community or organization a more welcoming place for bisexual persons. Additionally, participants will receive a complimentary copy of our congregational guidebook on bisexuality, Bisexuality: Making the Invisible Visible in Faith Communities.
