Debra Haffner also celebrates 39 years of advocating for sexual health, justice, and education. Her work and the work of the Religious Institute continues to change the conversation about religion and sexuality in the United States.

Rev. Debra Haffner has been a leader in the sexual and reproductive health field for 39 years, serving in management positions at Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, Advocates for Youth, and as President/CEO of SIECUS for 12 years, prior to being ordained as a Unitarian Universalist minister.
During Rev. Haffner’s tenure at SIECUS, she created the Religious Declaration on Sexual Morality, Justice, and Healing. The Religious Declaration became the mission of the Religious Institute, founded in 2001. The ideals expressed in the Religious Declaration continue to guide our work.
Rev. Haffner is the author or co-author of seven books, and has received multiple awards for her life’s work in sexuality education.
