As 2017 comes to a close, I am writing you one last time to ask you to help awaken the prophetic resistance by making a donation to the Religious Institute.
We are in a moment of awakening resistance. Our society is yearning for a faithful perspective that embraces sexual, gender, and reproductive justice.
We have seen this in countless ways this year. Last month, for example, we were invited to Texas to bless an abortion clinic. Together with activists and local faith leaders, we held the hands of the clinic workers, blessed the sacred work they do, and offered words of prayer. After the blessing, one of the staff members said, “This is an answered prayer; we’ve been waiting for this for five years.”
A few weeks ago, our staff traveled to the Supreme Court during a landmark case on LGBTQ discrimination. Speaking on the steps of the Court, we proclaimed that “religious beliefs do not give anyone the right to discriminate” and that “LGBTQ people have inherent dignity and sacred worth.” We brought with us the voices of over 1,200 religious leaders who signed an amicus brief and thousands of people of faith who observed a National Weekend of Prayer for LGBTQ Justice.
Your generous year-end donation allows us to do this work: reclaiming the narrative about people of faith, advocating for sexual, gender, and reproductive justice, and meeting the needs of activists and faith leaders.
When you support the Religious Institute, you help create sexually healthy and responsible faith communities, resist attacks on the most vulnerable people, and build a society with justice at its center.
We look forward to working alongside you in 2018 to build and sustain this faithful movement for sexual, gender, and reproductive justice.
Warmest wishes for the new year,
Rev. Marie Alford-Harkey
President and CEO
