The Interfaith Alliance has published “Same-Gender Marriage and Religious Freedom: A Call to Quiet Conversations and Public Debates,” a booklet by the organization’s president, Dr. C. Welton Gaddy. Dr. Gaddy states that his purpose in writing the booklet is to “find a way for people with contradictory beliefs, religions, values and opinions to live together without violating the basic nature of our democracy.” He frames the argument for same-sex marriage as one of equality under the U.S. Constitution rather than of scriptural interpretation.
