Say a Prayer for Global LGBTQ Justice May 15-17

GSIMay17On the weekend of May 17th, in observation of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOTB), congregations around the country are praying for LGBTQ people across the globe. Can your congregation join them?

To add you congregation’s voice, sign up and include the prayer below (feel free to modify it to fit your community’s needs) in your worship service during the weekend of May 17th.

Every day lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people around the world face violence, persecution, and discrimination because of their gender identity and/or sexual orientation. Just this week (May 11) names of LGBTQ activists were publicized in a newspaper. Those activists now say that they fear for their lives. Sadly, this is too often done in the name of religion. Our hope is that, from the Gilead Sabbath Initiative, religion will emerge as a voice for justice and love in the lives of LGBTQ people worldwide. Sign up below.

Prayer for International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia

We give thanks for the sacredness of humanity. We affirm our call to witness and respond to human suffering and brokenness. Where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people are persecuted or discriminated against, we must not keep silent. In observation of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, we lament the injustices faced by LGBTQ people in our communities and across the globe. Rooted in awareness, we pray for healing. Anchored in humility, we work for peace and justice. Guided by love, we hope for a world where all people are celebrated and loved, where their rights are secured, and where their sexual and gender diversity is valued. Amen.
