Consensus Statement on Homosexuality (Rabbinical Assembly)

The Committee on Jewish Law and Standards of The Rabbinical Assembly affirms the following policies:
(A) We will not perform commitment ceremonies for gays or lesbians.
(B) We will not knowingly admit avowed homosexuals to our rabbinical or cantorial schools or to the Rabbinical Assembly or the Cantors’ Assembly. At the same time, we will not instigate witch hunts against those who are already members or students.

NER-CCAR Passes Resolution in Support of Marriage Ruling; Opposes Efforts to Undermine Equality for Same-Sex Couples (CCAR)

On January 14, 2004, the Northeast Region of the Central Conference of American Rabbis (NER-CCAR) unanimously passed a resolution supporting equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. The resolution voices support for the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court’s ruling in Goodridge v. Dep’t of Public Health that excluding gay and lesbian couples from marriage violates the state Constitution.

That the 216th General Assembly (2004) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) urge the legislature and the people of Virginia to reconsider the recently passed law that will end all contractual rights between same-sex partners, and to direct the Stated Clerk to communicate to the appropriate officials in the Commonwealth of Virginia the church’s support of equal access to civil rights to all.
