37. The Church of the Nazarene views human sexuality as one expression of the holiness and beauty that God the Creator intended for His creation. It is one of the ways by which the covenant between a husband and wife is sealed and expressed. Christians are to understand that in marriage human sexuality can and ought to be sanctified by God. Human sexuality achieves fulfillment only as a sign of comprehensive love and loyalty. Christian husbands and wives should view sexuality as a part of their much larger commitment to one another and to Christ from whom the meaning of life is drawn.
Pornography is any material depicting or describing the human body or sexual conduct in a way that arouses sexual feelings. It is distributed through many media, including magazines, books, television, movies, music, and the Internet. It is as harmful to the spirit as tobacco, alcohol, and drugs are to the body. Using pornographic material in any way is a violation of a commandment of God: “Thou shalt not . . . commit adultery . . . nor do anything like unto it” (D&C 59:6). It can lead to other serious sins.
1. Statement on Pornography
Early int he 1984-1986 biennium, the Board for Brotherhood Concerns saw the need to alert the brotherhood to the great dangers of pornography. The following statement was drawn up by our board and presented for approval to the Board of Administration. Following that action, it was made available to the brotherhood. This great evil is not going away.
The BBC RECOMMENDS that this General Conference reaffirm the concerns expressed in the following statement and that in our preaching and lifestyles we take appropriate steps to assist in opposing this evil.

EFFECTS OF PORNOGRAPHY AND VIOLENCE
Why does the Assemblies of God stand so strongly against pornography?
The Assemblies of God is strongly opposed to all forms of pornography so freely available today. The 1987 Statement on Pornography expresses distress and outrage at “the encroachment of pornographic materials and establishments in America.” All around us we see the insidious consequence of pornography on social values, on moral behavior, and on family life.
AMERICAN BAPTIST RESOLUTION AGAINST PORNOGRAPHY
The Bible is our record of God’s creation of human beings, of the Creator’s establishment of a moral code of conduct for men and women, and of God’s covenant with the faithful. The Bible is also a record of the failure of humankind to abide by God’s law, and Scripture is abundantly full of accounts of sin, including the sins of sexual perversion and sexual violence. There can be no greater evidence than the Bible itself that humanity has distorted and demeaned God’s intentions for the relationships between men and women.
