Founded in 2001, the Religious Institute is a multifaith organization dedicated to advocating for sexual, gender, and reproductive health, education, and justice in faith communities and society. With a network of more than 12,000 religious leaders and people of faith, the Religious Institute has a record of creating campaigns that mobilize thousands of religious leaders and hundreds of faith communities. The Religious Institute also has long-standing partnerships with graduate theological schools, denominations, religious organizations, and sexual, gender, and reproductive justice organizations. In all our work, we offer prophetic, moral leadership at the intersection of religion and sexuality, gender, and reproductive health.

We are in regular contact with our network members, offering frequent opportunities and resources for education, prayer, and social action.
Meet Our Staff
The staff of the Religious Institute are experts at reaching out to faith communities, creating congregational resources, leading trainings, organizing actions, and conducting research. We possess an understanding of theology, denominational bodies, and the diversity of American religious expression needed to create campaigns relevant to religious communities. In addition, we bring knowledge of the most pressing sexual, gender, and reproductive justice concerns in the public arena, approaching these concerns from the lens of faith-rooted, intersectional justice.

Endorse the Religious Declaration
Written in January 2000, the Religious Declaration on Sexual Morality, Justice, and Healing is the Religious Institute’s founding document. Since its publication, thousands of religious leaders have endorsed the Religious Declaration on Sexual Morality, Justice, and Healing, joining the call for prophetic religious leadership on sexual, gender, and reproductive justice. We encourage all religious leaders to endorse the Religious Declaration.
